Our first batch of chickens have arrived! These will be egg layers and we will be adding more layers as well as a round of meat chickens in the coming weeks. We are just hoping that winter lets go of its grip on us soon so we can get outside and start preparing the coop, barn and fencing!

These chicks are a breed called Red Stars (also called Isa Brown). They are a cross between a Rhode Island Red and White Leghorns. They are prevalent egg layers, laying up to 300 eggs a year, and are not broody. If you are looking for a great backyard chicken, Isa are one of my favorites!!

They will take a bit of time to mature not producing eggs for roughly 18 weeks but then will be daily layers through the year!! 🥚 🥚

We’ve been pretty quiet over the last year and a half or so as we scaled back our farm to zero and decided what our next moves were. Our systems just weren’t system! Pigs were escaping every other day. Baby lambs were being born in the middle of a blizzards. Or mine we’re getting into the chicken coop. It was just not functioning and we were discouraged. So we stepped back, got rid of all of the animals and didn’t even plant gardens!

And now we are ready to get bak at it and develop something for our family and our community! Our goal is to provide food as well as education. This page will be used to teach. We will post some upcoming classes over the next year. And we will work to provide food to the food desert we know as the UP! Come along with us in this journey!

We finally got around to doing the drawing! There were SO many enteries and shares and we want to thank you all!! We’d like to congratulate Terra Brugman on winning the drawing! We will be in touch this evening.

Good morning!!!! Thank you to everyone who shared our deer processing post! The contest is now over! I have ALOT of work to do this weekend in putting all of the names into the drawing as it was shared over 300 times!!! 😮 Mind blowing!! I will be doing that this weekend and we will get the drawing done! 🐖
