Did someone say pie? Did you know that pears are an ancient fruit that came from Western Europe, Africa, and Asia. Pear remains have been found in ruins near Lake Zurich. In Rome, Pliny the Elder recommended stewing them with honey. In The Odyssey, Homer says pears are “a gift from the gods.”
While I do agree with Homer, my bet is always on a Walnut Grove PTA pear pie. Get them while you can, they are available Sunday July 28th at the Courtland Pear Fair. $15.00 for a whole pie. Better buy two, they freeze great.

This holiday falls during one of the busiest times of year for us. So, while your bbq’ing or boating today, remember that we’re here in our fields working. Cheers to America! 🇺🇸

Loving this cooler weather, wish it would have been last week! The heat wave did a number on the squash and cucumber buds. Farming is always a gamble, and Mother Nature always holds the cards!
