A very special edition to our farm. ๐ฅฐ
Meet the newest little member of our herd. A healthy heifer calf born a few days ago, but her story is so precious to us!
The very last photo is of our beloved 318, who we unfortunately lost to old age last year. We got her years ago from another farm with the tag number 318. We tossed around ideas for names that never stuck and she lovingly stayed as โ318โ to us, her name if you will.
We were devastated at the loss of 318 but grateful we still had her daughter Zoe with us (pictured with the calf). When Zoe got close to calving this time we both joked โwhat if itโs a heifer and it looks like 318.โ And then oddly enoughโฆ thatโs what happened!
She isnโt an exact replica of her grandmother but she sure is close to it. And now as she extends the lineage here on the farm, this calf is lovingly going to carry on the title of โ318.โ ๐
Farming is hard sometimes, but these are the moments that carry us through. The times we can look back at legacies passed down and see lineages of cattle that weโve raised covering our hillsides. 318 may be gone, but she still with us both in our memories and now in our herdโฆ and for that we are overjoyed.
