Soybean harvest started about a week and a half ago. We are 2/3 done with soybeans and all done planting wheat (I think 🤔).
It was a late start but we have had some incredible weather that has kept us going.

Happy 1st birthday Karl! 🎂 🥳 🎉

I will never forget the night he was born 38 days early. The next morning when he was still alive. The first time he stood up. His first steps. When he got really sick and we didn't think he would make it. Moving him from the little cart, to the big cart, to the huts, to the heifer barn...

My kids have this image that he will live to be 20 so their kids can meet Karl.🥹 So 🍻 to hopefully another 19+ more.

Side note he does not like corn muffins.

We have been very busy the past week harvesting wheat. Everything is going relatively well (it has been rather hot and smoky in Wisconsin). And we are enjoying the new to us grain truck.

I hope everyone is staying cool during this hot spell.

Our cows have fans/misters for cooling. In this heat they still have their struggles. That is why it is important to keep waterers at every point in your barns.

Olive really likes hanging out in the office where the A/C is. Or in the shop in front of the fan.

As for the humans. We make sure we stay hydrated and take frequent trips to the house or office.

I hear ice cream also helps! 😉

Kevin Zwieg will share his experiences installing and operating two sub-inch-accurate GPS guidance systems, including auto steer, auto turn, and swath control, based on the open-source software project AgOpenGPS, developed and used by farmers worldwide. The discussion will cover the upsides and downsides, comparisons with commercially available systems, and a deeper look at how RTK and GPS guidance systems work.

Happy New Year!

A new year a new spot for Karl. He has moved out of his hut (crib) and into the heifer barn (preschool). We are well aware that Karl is not a heifer. It has been a long time since we have had a steer on the farm but it looks like Karl will be here for a while.

Him and Olive still love eachother very much! Lisa and I are still his favorite humans. I am curious to see how his personality develops as he keeps graduating.
