True Grit -

This soap is the perfect exfoliating scrub for the shower or the kitchen because it has both coffee grounds for that extra texture, and the Dragon’s Blood fragrance for a “knock you out” clean scent. True Grit is the perfect Gardener’s Kitchen soap. The coffee grounds scrub dirty garden hands, deodorize the smell of fish and onions off your hands in the kitchen, or use it in the shower for gamey teenagers after sports practice.

Reserve your bars now! They always go fast this time of year!

This is Mirage. Her ram lambs have been weaned and so now we begin milking her. Mirage gives just under a quart each day but when combined with the milk of several ewes it’s still easily worth milking a non-dairy breed of sheep.

In addition to using this milk to make our sheep milk soap, this churro milk is so creamy and sweet that I use it as creamer in my coffee.

Many folks ask how we train semi-wild sheep to accept the milking stand. We shape the behaviors we want. Navajo-Churro sheep are very cautious but also very clever. They quickly learn to conquer their fear of climbing onto the milking stand in exchange for corn so all it takes on our part is shaping the behavior.

This is easiest when they are youngsters. I don’t wait until they are lactating to train them to the stand now. I start when they are still on their mothers. This is Brienne.

Brienne was born last spring. Instead of pulling her off her mother during the time Sweet Tea was being milked, I let little Brienne come and eat corn with her mother. She soon began climbing onto the stand herself. Flash forward one year later.

Brienne is now an adult and is happily pushing into the milking stall and hopping onto the stand for corn. She is not being milked, but she is still being trained. Brienne sees the milking stand as a happy place for yummies. Next year when Brienne has lambs of her own, all the work we’ve done a few minutes here and there will save me a lot of work because Brienne will already know how to leap onto the milking stand by herself.

We regret that we will not be able to attend the Farmer’s Market at the Courthouse Square today due to both low inventory (had lots of recent online orders) and today’s impending bad weather (soap and rain don’t mix well.)

I can still do local deliveries this week. If I don’t have any of the fragrances you want in stock, check Double LL Florist on the Square because she just restocked her inventory of my small bar soap, or David’s Stove Shop in Weatherford because they carry my larger bath bars.

I have a very limited selection of your favorites now and just opened up a new line of Cactus scents this month. The test batch of Cactus & Dewberry is already sold out! The next batch available is Cactus Blossom and is just now ready for sale. Bring the fresh fragrance of the desert after a rain to your bath!
