Cheap beef isn’t cheap. Somebody always pays the difference.

Right now, we keep hearing about bringing in more beef from Argentina as if cheaper imported beef is somehow the answer.

But the answer to expensive groceries shouldn’t be making it harder for the families who are already out here raising the food.

Because when you buy beef from a local rancher, you aren’t buying some anonymous package that appeared under fluorescent lights in a grocery store.

We know that animal.

Hell, ask us about one of ours and we can probably tell you its mother, its father, the day it was born, where it was born, what pasture it grew up in, and what the weather was doing the morning it hit the ground.

We know what it ate.
We know how it was cared for.
We know the nights spent checking calves.
The frozen fingers.
The broken equipment.
The vet bills.
The drought years.
The feed bills.
The 2 a.m. drives through a blizzard because something didn’t look right.

We know exactly what went into that package of hamburger sitting in your freezer because our hands were part of the story long before it ever became beef.

That is why FTT guarantees the meat we sell.

Not because we read a label.

Because we raised it.

Our name is attached to every cut that leaves us, and that means something. Our reputation, our livelihood, and years of hard work are sitting right there on your dinner table.

And that is the part I wish people understood when they talk about “cheap beef.”

You may save a few dollars buying the cheapest package you can find.

But when American ranchers disappear, when another family sells the cows, when another ranch gets broken apart because the next generation simply cannot afford to keep going…

we don't get that back.

You aren't just buying beef when you buy local.

You are helping somebody keep feeding cows tomorrow morning.

You are helping a kid grow up learning how to pull a calf, fix fence, doctor a sick animal, and understand that taking care of something means showing up whether it is Christmas morning or 20 below.

You are keeping money in rural communities.

You are keeping families on the land.

And most importantly, you can look the person who raised your food in the eye and ask them anything you want to know about it.

There is a value in that no imported “cheap” beef can replace.

So yes, price matters. We know that better than anyone.

But maybe the question shouldn’t always be:

“How cheap can we make our food?”

Maybe sometimes it should be:

“Who do we want raising it?”

Because when your family sits down at the table, we believe you deserve more than a bargain.

You deserve to know the story behind what you’re feeding them.

And at FTT, we will always be proud to tell you ours. ❤️

I tend to ramble when I get emotional, so I will try and keep this sweet and short...ish.
Annie came to us a few years ago looking for a show steer. She did an amazing job with him even with having her arm all messed up. Then this year she told me she wanted to show a gilt that I would bring home to breed. So we made a deal that we were going to keep her growing slow and steady. I didn't want to mess with her much because her breeding is so great, I want babies for years to come out of her. Annie still walked out with one heck of a hog and absolutely killed it! I am so proud of her senior year and am so sad our 4H journey has ended. Luckily she is still stuck with me for life.
As for Ember, she came to KICK *** AND TAKE NAMES!! Ember has worked so unbelievably hard this year. She has taken direction, changed things up, and then done it about 5000 times again. Whatever it took to get Bluey there. And holy moly did it pay off. Watch the video at the end. Pretty sure you hear me wailing/sobbing (or some weird dying noise) at the end.
I am so grateful these girls chose us this year and am so happy I get to cheer them on for such amazing life events.
And last but not least, congratulations to ALL the 4H and FFA kids at the Missoula County Fair this week! You worked your butts off and as always I feel so blessed to have been able to see all your hard work come to fruition.

Sorry for the late notice ya'll! But we will be in Dillon at Murdoch's tomorrow, 8/2, from 10-2! Come say hi!
