🚨BONUS VENDOR ALERT!

You may have seen him at Eastern Market Partnership or one of the many farmers markets around the Detroit area, so we couldn’t be more excited to welcome Calvin Richardson of Uncle Calvin's Sweet Potato Pies here to Jackson on Saturday at the River & Rail!

From our first meeting (and taste of heaven!) on the lawn of the Farmers Market at the State Capitol in Lansing several years ago, we’ve been working on getting this absolutely unbeatable delicacy over here to mid Michigan!

Uncle Calvin's Sweet Potato Pies comes all the way from Detroit and offers a taste of nostalgia with their delectable pies, crafted from a cherished family recipe passed down from Nanny, also known as Lilar, the beloved matriarch.

With a commitment to preserving tradition, Uncle Calvin's Sweet Potato Pies captures the essence of homemade goodness, delivering a slice of comfort reminiscent of the pies Nanny used to make.

Uncle Calvin himself will be at the River & Rail, and it’s his first time *ever* in Jackson - do what you do and stop on down and give him a warm welcome - pick one up for dinner, one as a thank you to a friend, and one for the freezer! We’d love to convince him to come back again yet this fall! 🥧🍂 (and raise your hand if you’d like to be able to purchase these legendary pies EVERY DAY at the River & Rail!)

Welcome to the weekend!
Friday’s weather is Pure Michigan perfection - cool morning, a warm afternoon, and an ideal evening reprieve! What better way to start your day than with a fresh coffee in hand from the Happy Camper Cafe and enjoying a late summer wake up with us? We’ve got just TEN Fridays left this season… let’s make the most of each one !

What’s the beef?
There’s an awful lot of concern being raised lately about food recalls - and rightfully so. The more traveling, handling and processing your food endures, the more likely it is to become contaminated. Shortening the farm-to-table food chain not only reduces contamination risk, but it strengthens the local economy. Here’s more info:

Speaking of local - we’ve got a new Friday vendor popping in! Bringing a little whimsy to the market with her Flour Bouquets -
From Leslie, here’s Kim of Lavenders Blue:

“Hi! I’m Kim, the baker and owner behind Lavender’s Blue Baked Goods. What started as a love for baking and creating homemade treats has grown into a small business that I’m so proud to share with my community.

At Lavender’s Blue, I specialize in fresh, homemade baked goods with a cozy, country feel. One of our signatures is our Flour Bouquets—beautiful arrangements of artisan breads that are just as fun to give as they are to eat! I also offer a variety of homemade favorites, including sourdough, mini pies, brownies, cookies, brittle, calzones, and other seasonal treats.

I love being part of local farmers markets, meeting new people, and creating something special for families to take home and enjoy. Everything I bring is made with care, and I’m always excited to share a little bit of Lavender’s Blue with a new community! 💜”

Come on down Friday and grab some homemade strawberry jalapeño, strawberry, or blackberry jam and an armful of freshly baked beauties!
