Happy world honeybee day! Last week we had a storm come through and I was able to rescue a hive from a tree that came down. Once the hive was opened and I gave them some eggs from another hive, they moved right into the yellow nuc box to care for them. It was awesome to share about bees with the neighbors who came out to watch and a great experience trying to save a natural hive that had come into distress. If that have head swarmed away because their hive had been broken , they probably would not have survived winter because they would not have time to store honey in the fall in a great enough amount.

Update on the bees from the log:
They were queenless. I believe before the log was cut they had already become queenless, because I didnt see any larvae or brood in the brood chamber. Battlefield Bee Supply & Honey Company has great Buckfast queens, and I bought two to place in this hive and one split that I made. I can't wait to see their progress in a week or two. I will update y'all once the queens have been released and started laying.

Exciting news! We now have half-pint jars of pure comb honey for $15! Each jar has a chunk of honeycomb, topped with liquid honey. Find us at the farmers market in Medina on July 11 to grab some or send us a message here.
