JUST IN: Brunswick County issues Stage 3 Water Shortage Warning. MANDATORY restrictions: No automated irrigation allowed, non-compliance fees have increased up to $5,000 as the water and drought crisis in Brunswick County continues to worsen.
Brunswick County says
-The use of water for power washing of buildings and other structures is prohibited
-The use of water for washing impervious and paved surfaces is prohibited
-The use of water for washing or cleaning of mobile equipment, including automobiles, trucks, boats, and fleet vehicles is prohibited
-The use of water from fire hydrants is prohibited, except for: Fighting fire and for fire protection purposes;
- The filling of family, public, or private swimming pools, including wading pools, hot tubs, spas, and whirlpool tubs, is prohibited,
-The use of water for flushing sewer lines is prohibited except when necessary to meet public health and safety standards.
-The serving of water in eating and drinking establishments shall be done on customer request only.
-Do not leave water running. Do not leave faucets running while shaving, brushing teeth, rinsing or preparing food.
-Limit the use of clothes washers and dishwashers and, when used, operate fully loaded. Operate dishwashers outside of peak demand hours from 8:00 PM. to 4:00 AM. Do not use water-cooled air conditioners between the hours of 4:00 AM and 10:00 AM.

This alert applies to all Brunswick County Public Utilities water customers, including wholesale customers, residents, businesses, new developments, etc.

Holden Beach Utilities Customers
Oak Island Utilities Customers
Ocean Isle Beach Utilities Customers

Brunswick County Public Utilities provides water service in unincorporated portions of Brunswick County as well as the following communities: Boiling Spring Lakes, Bolivia, Calabash, Carolina Shores, Caswell Beach, Navassa, Northwest, Sandy Creek, Shallotte, Southport, St. James, Sunset Beach, and Varnamtown.

Failure to comply could result in fees up to $5,000 and water disconnection.

This is concerning

More than 35,000 gallons of untreated sewage spilled into Mill Creek early Monday after a bypass pump malfunction, city officials said.

The spill occurred around 2:30 a.m. on May 18 near Dewitt Street when approximately 35,751 gallons of untreated wastewater entered the creek, according to the City of Jacksonville.
