Well that's a wrap! Our sweet Melissa (aka miss Bee as she has always been the one that buzzes about the herd and with us socializing) just had the last calf of the year today. Hooray!

It is a red bull calf out of Moosters Meadows Dexter Cattle Maurice.
With this bull calf, the boys evened up the score with 8 heifers and 8 bull calves born for 2026.

Maurice sure has thrown some very nice calves during his first years crop. All have been easy births with quite vigorous calves right away. Just the way we love it!

Had a twofer today!
Sienna had a red bull and Molly had a black heifer. Both polled.
Maurice and Moonracer were busy boy's last year!
We now have had 16 calves born for the year.
9 heifers and 7 bulls.
8 calves out of Moosters Moonracer and 8 out of Maurice.
Maurice and Moonracer were busy boy's last year!
Just one more calf to go.

Getting a bit rummy and starting to feel like every day is deja vu all over again.
6 calves born in 8 days will do that to you!

The fantastic news is Double D Brandi had a heifer this morning!
Just like the last few mornings, we rolled up to the ranch just in time to see a new calf had just been born.
We hopped out of the truck and Brandi immediately bellowed out to us to declare her calf had finally arrived!
Her daddy Moosters Meadows Dexter Cattle "Maurice" (aka the gangster of love) who was across the fence then matched Brandi's call out with a big ole bugle of his own.
Such a precious bovine family moment.

Her calf then promptly got up, wobbled around and did a big belly flop. Seen in the video.
The next try she promptly flopped right into the blackberries. Oh my.
I jumped in to help get the calf out of the blackberries and mom wisely had her lay down away from them to rest up safely while she finished licking her off.

Our neighbors and friends are purchasing Brandi, her yearling heifer from last year (Double D Graci) and this sweet little new arrival.
This nice little package will start their brand new journey with Dexter cattle.
Join us in congratulating Agnes and Aaron Arzoumanian - Welcome to the Dexter cattle family!

The Double D x Moosters Meadows Dexter Cattle Calfapalooza is popping off now!

Double D Hope had her very first calf. A red bull calf out of Moosters Maurice - aka the gangster of love.
Hope and her calf are pictured here shortly after birth with her calf standing up for the first time.
We love these ones when we roll up after the hard work has been done by Mom and she is cleaning them up and getting them up to nurse. Perfect!

This fall is Maurice's first calf crop and we have been quite pleased with the results so far.
We brought him back up to the ranch to start breeding the cows that are on a spring calving schedule. So he gets to see his babies being born from across the fence. He has been bugling up an absolute storm - a proud papa indeed.

This morning Crest Point Sorcha (Sally) had a black heifer out of Moosters Moonracer.
Sally is going to have her hands full with this sassy little one as she is already off to the races trying her best to run around with the other newborn calves during their evening zoomies - at just 12 hours old! Of course with mom running behind her calling after her the entire way.

At this point I've lost count how many calves have been born the past two weeks and how many we have posted pics of - but once the dust settles, we will post some group photos - complete with names for all (hopefully).

Sweet Pea had a nice healthy bull calf yesterday. She doesn't even look like she just calved.

We've now had 6 calves born in the last 17 days. 7 more to go. Whew!

Welcome to the world DD Ranch Moonshine!

Moosters Paisley Jane had a very energetic and quite handsome bull calf this morning.
She picked a beautiful spot down by the river in the trees to have him.

Fall calving is well underway for us here in Southern Oregon and it seems a little bit like Moosters Meadows "West" around here lately - with back to back Moosters calves in two days.
And that's a good thing!

We're excited to share the next chapter for Double D Ranch Dexter Beef!

As many of you know, we've been gradually simplifying our ranch operation recently. After much thought, we've decided it's the right time to transition the beef side of Double D Ranch to Sarah Kucera and Mack McEiver of Applegoat Valley Farm.
https://www.applegoatvalley.com/

Many of you already know Sarah and Mack through the local farmers markets and Mama Terra Micro Creamery Chèvre cheeses available throughout the Rogue Valley and we couldn't be happier to have them continue what we've worked so hard to build.

Sarah and Mack have already begun purchasing some of our breeding stock to add to their herd and will also be purchasing current and future steer crops to raise and market. This partnership allows the Dexter genetics and breeding program we've developed over the years to continue while creating a smooth transition for our beef customers.

Double D Ranch isn't going anywhere! We'll continue focusing on our Dexter cow-calf herd and breeding program, with breeding stock continuing to be available as it has in the past. Sarah and Mack will focus on raising and marketing premium Dexter beef, allowing each of us to focus on what we do best while continuing to work together.

Most importantly, we want to say thank you. Your friendship, encouragement, and support over the past fifteen years have meant more to us than words can express. We've been incredibly blessed to know so many wonderful people through this journey.

Please join us in welcoming and supporting Sarah and Mack. We're excited to continue working together for the benefit of the Dexter Breed for many years to come.

Thank you all for being part of the Double D Ranch family!

Don & Diana

Keira had her calf yesterday. A super strong black bull calf. Thats a wrap for our spring calves. Time to name him!

Kiera has already integrated him into the herd in less than 24 hours. Usually they don't allow the calves to be with the herd for a few days but she is the Queen of this group and Momma knows best!

The stats so far for 2026 are: 1 red bull, 1 dun bull, 1 black bull and 1 black heifer.
All are super healthy and doing well.

Our fall calves start hitting the ground around the beginning of September. Expecting 12 more to be born by the end of October.
