We're excited to share the next chapter for Double D Ranch Dexter Beef!

As many of you know, we've been gradually simplifying our ranch operation recently. After much thought, we've decided it's the right time to transition the beef side of Double D Ranch to Sarah Kucera and Mack McEiver of Applegoat Valley Farm.

Many of you already know Sarah and Mack through the local farmers markets and Mama Terra Micro Creamery Chèvre cheeses available throughout the Rogue Valley and we couldn't be happier to have them continue what we've worked so hard to build.

Sarah and Mack have already begun purchasing some of our breeding stock to add to their herd and will also be purchasing current and future steer crops to raise and market. This partnership allows the Dexter genetics and breeding program we've developed over the years to continue while creating a smooth transition for our beef customers.

Double D Ranch isn't going anywhere! We'll continue focusing on our Dexter cow-calf herd and breeding program, with breeding stock continuing to be available as it has in the past. Sarah and Mack will focus on raising and marketing premium Dexter beef, allowing each of us to focus on what we do best while continuing to work together.

Most importantly, we want to say thank you. Your friendship, encouragement, and support over the past fifteen years have meant more to us than words can express. We've been incredibly blessed to know so many wonderful people through this journey.

Please join us in welcoming and supporting Sarah and Mack. We're excited to continue working together for the benefit of the Dexter Breed for many years to come.

Keira had her calf yesterday. A super strong black bull calf. Thats a wrap for our spring calves. Time to name him!

Kiera has already integrated him into the herd in less than 24 hours. Usually they don't allow the calves to be with the herd for a few days but she is the Queen of this group and Momma knows best!

The stats so far for 2026 are: 1 red bull, 1 dun bull, 1 black bull and 1 black heifer.
All are super healthy and doing well.

Our fall calves start hitting the ground around the beginning of September. Expecting 12 more to be born by the end of October.

Well surprise, surprise...
Yesterday (Memorial Day) we were fighting irrigation issues all morning when all of a sudden Fallon who was not due for a few days decided to go into labor.
Good thing that we were there - as she needed a bit of assistance. After some cooperative pushing by her and pulling by me, in unison with each contraction, we did it!
Fallon ended up having a healthy, beautiful, polled, black heifer.
By the time that was done it was getting late but we made sure she nursed and was doing well before we left the ranch right before dark.
Came back this morning to check on her and when we walked into the pasture did a double take. Wait, what?! Who's calf is this?
Well, Maizie also had her calf during the night. A handsome, dun colored, polled bull with blue eyes. He was napping next to Mom and was quite content. Got Maizie up to make sure all was well. He had nursed down one side of her real well last night. He then jumped up and started nursing again.
Perfect.

Incidentally we had a massive wind storm blown through yesterday. So strong we could hear a bunch of trees crashing and falling at the top of the mountain behind the ranch.
Both girls weren't quite due to calve yet. Close - but still a few days off.
We figure the pressure system that came in with the storm jump started things.

Presto...Had a twofer and didn't even know it!

First calf of the year born this morning - Mother's Day 2026.
Such a blessing in so many ways.

Will post more pics later. We just let Mom and baby be so they could have their space to bond together, nurse and rest up.

This was Fae's 3rd calf. She has now had a calf born on May 8th, today May 10th and May 12th.

So excited for Kendell @ These Hoofin' Heifers to become the next steward of Moosters Meadows Dexter Cattle "Moosters Moonracer!"
Moon loaded in the trailer this morning like the smooth operator he has become.
You'll be missed big fella but onward to the next herd you go.
Between ourselves and Straube Ranch Irish Dexter cattle Moon gave us both some super nice and thick calves - plus more on the way for this year. Moon has developed into a real specimen of a Dexter Bull and now has an amazing and promising future at his new home up north.
You've gotten yourself a real Gem in Moonracer Kendell. Best to you all!

Hey folks if you're looking for some high quality grass fed heritage breed Dexter beef, we have a dear friend that is selling 1/4 beef and has multiple 1/4 beef available. Processed and ready to pick up at Montgomery meats today!

Her Dexter beef is 100% grass fed and finished out near us here in the Applegate Valley.
Her herd has similar blood lines as ours as we share breeding bulls.
Outstanding grass fed beef!
Her herd is taken care of right... Local grass, no weird stuff, humanely raised and harvested on the farm and processed locally. Generally the same sorts of practices as us.
