This week, we’re highlighting three breeds that have earned a permanent place on our “favorites” list.

•Buff Orpington
The golden retriever of the chicken world. Buff Orpingtons are famous for their calm, friendly personalities and their ability to fit into almost any backyard flock. They’re a favorite for first-time chicken keepers and families with children.

•Americana
If you’re looking for a little color and personality, Americanas are hard to beat. These birds come in a variety of feather colors and often reward their owners with beautiful blue or green eggs that make every egg basket more exciting.

•Black Australorp
One of the most underrated breeds in the backyard chicken world. Australorps are known for their excellent egg production, gentle temperament, and stunning green sheen that appears in the sunlight.

Every flock is different, but these three breeds have earned their reputation for a reason.
