🐝 Sometimes, beekeeping comes with unexpected surprises! While working the hive today, I found this not-so-friendly crew underneath... a nest of paper wasps! Unfortunately, I got stung in the process, but it’s all part of the job when you’re working with nature 🐝😅. Lesson learned: always check under the hive!

My personal best, 96 hives of bees on a 12ft deck plus 4 on the trailer... While towing 10k skid steer. The old 7.3L F-450 did not care.

Here is a nice size swarm of honey bees. Bees start to reproduce during the spring. This is referred to as swarming. The parent queen and about 50-60% of the hive move to a new home. While the remaining bees stay behind to continue on with a new daughter queen.

Usually we don't harvest honey this time of year but we left the fall honey on the bees for the winter. We removed the honey prior to shipping the bees out to California for almond pollination.

Nice rat snake about 5 feet long.

Just got the bees home from UP Michigan. It was not a great honey crop this year but the bees are looking good. Time to make up fall increases.
