: Did you know that chicken nuggets, while feeling like a longtime staple, are actually a ~fairly~ recent invention. In 1963, Robert C. Baker, a food science professor at Cornell University, developed a method to make processed chicken more practical and appealing. At that time, Americans didn't consume much chicken, mainly because it was typically sold whole. Baker's innovation allowed ground chicken to be formed into uniform pieces that could be easily breaded and cooked without falling apart. For a long time, this idea remained in the food industry and did not become a common household favorite until the 1970s! What's your favorite way to eat chicken nuggets? Duval County Public Schools
