Everyone has a story, here's mine:
Growing up in a house of 3 daughters, on weekends and spare time our father would give us the option of helping out our mother in the kitchen or helping him mechanical work outside. Fast-forward to my senior year in high school when I decided to enlist in the U.S Navy. At the time of my enlistment I was only given 2 choices for jobs, and ironically my only opti
ons where: Aviation Mechanic & Culinary Specialist. I chose to try something new and went on to become a Navy cook.
6 years in and after having various positions in different commands, a deployment on the oldest aircraft carrier at the time, and finally enjoying my job.... I was diagnosed with Lupus & Rheumatoid arthritis, & told I could no longer do my job, received an Honorable Discharge ending my service in the military. Lost & confused on what path to follow once I became a civilian, I applied and got accepted to Johnson & Wales University of North Miami. There I earned an Associates in Baking & Pastry Arts which has lead to me where I am today. I strongly believe that after my diagnosis, the smartest thing I did was research and cut gluten out of my diet. It was a struggle to say the least, but finally 100% gluten free and I know it is what keeps me out of emergency hospital visits and having to take 5 different medications for my illness. I love what I do. I enjoy what I do. I can only hope you all enjoy eating what I do! My goal is to provide the quality and taste of a regular baked good to those of us that can not consume gluten. I preach health and nutrition, for it is like I mentioned above, a HUGE part as to why my lupus is in a calm state as of now. Hence the name "Sneak-A-Treat", I allow myself to eat a sugary treat once in a while, for they are delicious and make my sweet tooth happy :)
