I totally forgot we named the babies! We went with the theme “celestial bodies” so we have Sol, Leo and Lux for the first 3 that were born. Then we have Sia for the next one, but that’s cause my friend’s daughter kept saying “see ya!” So it stuck. Then we’ve got DJ for the little polish chicken. I’d love to say it’s named after DJ Tanner but… Due to its appearance it’s named after a certain small-handed orange guy with a bad blonde perm. So welcome my little friends, and let’s hope for a healthy flock in the future!
The 4 that were hatched, I’m going to assume they are:
Sol: the light one, I believe her mom is a Welbar or amberlink, and her dad is a Ayam Ketawa
Leo and Lux are the twins, and they look like their mom is probably is an Australorp and their dad is the Ayam Ketawa
Sia has lighter wings and her mom is probably a golden laced Wyandotte and her dad being that Ayam Ketawa

What the hell? How did an entire extended family pull this off? Here’s part 1!

Apparently you guys want the story 😂 I’m way too tired to unpack 30 years of absolute fu***ng nonsense tonight, but Part 1 starts tomorrow.

Until then, feel free to wildly speculate. I will be confirming absolutely nothing.

Anyone want the deep dive because this story gets absolutely fu***ng ridiculous 😂

The reality of raising livestock is sometimes everything just fu***ng dies. We’ve lost 3 hatchlings in the last 48 hours, today we lost our last meat chicken on the literal day we were supposed to cull her, probably a heart attack, at the beginning of July we lost basically an entire flock of newborn meat chickens, I managed to f**k up an entire incubator full of eggs so spectacularly that ONE chicken hatched and we’ve lost more turkey poults than I even want to count because apparently turkeys can wake up in the morning and decide being alive just isn’t really their thing anymore. And it fu***ng sucks. You can do everything right and they die, you can do everything wrong and somehow one tiny bastard makes it, you can spend hours trying to save something that weighs less than a chicken nugget just for it to die in your hands anyway. Then you bury it, clean everything up, check everyone else and go feed the animals that are still alive because they don’t know you’re sad and they still need you. I love this stupid little farm and all these stupid fu***ng birds way more than I ever intended to and I think that’s the part nobody really prepares you for. Livestock is livestock until you’re holding a tiny bird at 2am begging it to just fu***ng live. This little birds organs fell out its ass this afternoon. So yay.

POV: my family reminding me I have a whole ass house, husband and children and cannot live in the chicken coop.

4 weeks ago I accidentally became a mother to a duck, and honestly I don’t remember agreeing to any of this. Now it swims, splashes, shakes its tiny ass feathers around and chases me across the yard because apparently I am Mother. I don’t speak duck, I don’t have feathers, and I am wildly unqualified for this position, but here we are

Well, the great incubator s**tshow of 2026 has officially come to a close, and here we have it, ONE SINGLE CHICKEN.
One.
As if every decision regarding this hatch was decided by a racoon, this has been without a doubt a lesson in “think before you do, don’t incubate when your meds are off, and for gods sake take your Vyvanse.
These poor eggs were fighting for their lives before they even got here, shipping got delayed, my humidity spent 21 days bouncing around like it was day trading crypto, and just to really make things extra special and spicy, around day 10 I realized I put the eggs in upside down.
So yeah, our management team needs reconstruction. Oh wait, it’s just me, I’m fired.

We did have another chick start to hatch, but the poor thing got shrink-wrapped. I tried to help, but it was still bleeding, so I had to stop and give it time. I left to pick up my daughter, came home, and unfortunately it had passed, still mostly inside its shell.
That part sucked. There’s really no funny spin on it. Sometimes hatching is just fu***ng brutal.
But, against all odds, humidity issues, shipping delays, operator error, and whatever ancient poultry curse was apparently placed upon this incubator (I swear Brett, I know you cursed it)
ONE TINY BASTARD MADE IT.
And then we realized we had another problem.
What the hell do you do with one chicken?

I was not about to raise a single chick by itself and accidentally create some weird little homeschooled chicken that thinks I’m its mother and demands to sit at the dinner table and use cutlery. (And dude we eat chicken like 3 nights a week)

Luckily, we have a broody mama currently raising her own clutch, so we decided to see if she’d adopt our little orphan. We tucked the baby in with her and she basically went
“Oh yeah that’s totally mine”
(And because chickens are basically dumb asses and have no idea what they look like, this chicken who is a typical Welbar adopted baby Trump)
So now our lone survivor has a whole pile of BYM siblings, a mama to keep it warm, and most importantly an actual chicken to teach it how to chicken instead of me standing over a brooder going “LOOK. SCRATCH THE GROUND. LIKE THIS.”
My unhatched eggs have left a review:
“The 2026 Great Incubator Sh*tshow has been a disaster. 0/10 would not recommend. No stars, no cookies, no trophies”
But we got a happy ending! One chick made it, one mama got another baby without questioning a thing, and while some lessons were learned, my next batch of rare eggs arrive tomorrow. Thank God it’s not July, because July was awful, and I blame it on this all starting then.

It’s the absolute truth🙌🏻🤣 I keep my feed in metal trash cans and use the feed bags to collect the trash in🤣🤪

The girls did it! The broody bunch hatched their first successful clutch. After 21 days theis girls should be so proud of themselves. 🐣
