Bee Grateful Apiaries

Bee Grateful Apiaries Bee Grateful Apiaries Bee Grateful Apiaries started in 2012 starting with one hive. We now have 35 hives in 25 beeyards and are still growing.

All our hives are located throughout the urban core of Riverside, Avondale, Murray Hill, Springfield and San Marco in Jacksonville Florida. We are urban beekeepers and hope to expand to over 100 hives. Those who host our hives are called hive hosts . We are so grateful for each person and family who joins us on this adventure as we share in our joy of beekeeping and protecting our pollinators...Thank you.

Now is the time to manage a queenless hive. If I let the hive make a new queen it takes a month before she begins to lay and I loose a month of honey production andpossibly a hive so at this time of year we buy a mated queen There is a sugar plug on the bottom of the cage and after removing a piece of cork the cage is placed in the hive. By the time the bees eat thru the candy the queen emerges from the cage and is accepted by the hive. The queen is marked with a yellow dot and worker bees are placed in the cage with the queen to feed and take care of the queen.
