I had to wait a little while to post. This is not an easy one but this is part of the risks that darken the joy of breeding. The journey for this foal was not an easy one. Ellie spent time at Dr Leah Rhoades last spring because her cycle was all over the place ( I believe everyone had trouble last year). I got a text from Leah that I needed to call her back ASAP. She let me know that Ellie had checked in foal and I was so thrilled and a tad relieved that one hurdle was jumped. Then she said ...triplets. She gave me my options . We made a decision. She called back later and said we were down to 2. We decided when the deadline came we would flush the whole pregnancy if the smaller was not absorbed. Thankfully a couple weeks later we were down to one. She did well all winter and finally her safe date arrived. Lots of movement up until the day of. Sadly the little embryo that had fought so hard could not win her last battle. No visible signs of what could have went wrong. Momma had time to say goodbye. Ellie is physically doing well but she knows she's missing a sweet little filly that should be by her side. 💔
