Fable's Farm Dahlias

Nothing like a dahlia blooming during a snowstorm! This is Peaches and Cream grown from a thin root that could hardly be called a tuber. When digging up tubers last autumn, this root fell off the main clump and it had a little sprout attached. So we put it in a bucket as an experiment. Forgot it in the cold greenhouse until December, then brought it inside under a LED grow light panel. It got pinched back around new year and now has this lovely bloom.

Dear friends, while we usually open our tuber shop on February 2nd, we’ve decided to keep our online store closed for the 2026 season to prioritize Melanie’s injury recovery. This way, or family can dedicate our full energy to the dahlias this spring. By skipping the shipping desk this year, we are prioritizing the stewardship of our prize stock to ensure our 2027 collection is our most vibrant and robust yet, and more importantly, that our family is healthy! Fable, our sulcata mascot, is currently indoors "overseeing" our sleeping tubers while the snow falls, and we can’t wait to share our summer progress with you as we grow toward a spectacular return next year!

Wow! Not even April and we are SOLD OUT of tubers for 2025 Season! Thank you so much for your support! If you’re in New Hampshire in June, look for us and other awesome farms/nurseries at the Rare and Unusual Plant sale at Bedrock Garden’s in Lee on June 21st. We're planning on bringing over 20 varieties of rooted cuttings from our own beloved tubers!

Thank you to everyone who has bought tubers from us so far. I went through the stock, and here's what we have left. At most, some of these have 3 tubers left in stock - many are only 1 tuber left. Hi gardeners! We're still here! I know our social media accounts have been deader than corduroy couches, but that's because we've been taking a break from... well... social media! Not the greatest tactic for business, but great for the soul. 😌 With that being said, we'll be posting pictures of this year's varieties via instagram soon (which get shared here to fb) If you come to the website sale February 2nd, you'll find our stock VERY LIMITED with some only have 1 or 2 tubers available. This is because we're keeping a lot of what we produced last year to fit an expansion (Don't worry - we're still a micro micro farm!)

Dahlias dug, washed, divided, and washed again (so much dirt hides between tubers) to get ready for storage and eventually the website! No fancy rigs here on our microfarm - just a hose and a wire garden cart. We were particularly happy for the summer temps after lasts week's hard frost, because digging and washing all the dahlias on the farm is rather muddy/wet work!

And just like that - KAPOOF! - hard frost turns dahlias into cooked spinach! The plants may be done for the year, but the tubers are still alive and well. With warm weather ahead (Mother Nature, you're such a tease!) we are going to be digging soon and getting tubers prepped for storage.

It's 42 degrees and raining, and dahlias are still going strong here in NH. They'll keep blooming until the first hard frost.
