The outpouring of support from the local community to keep the Kavanagh Wildlife Farm open has been felt. The closing is a heart-rending reality as the board objectively examined the farm’s current operations and community impact, as well as the findings of an independent consulting firm engaged to conduct a comprehensive examination of Kavanagh Wildlife Farm. Unfortunately, the “giving” and “educational” requirements of the nonprofit have become secondary to farm operations. As the nonprofit’s financial stewards, action needed to be taken.

Board members – who are non-compensated volunteers whose only motivation is to ensure the legacy and community impact of the Kavanaghs endures for generations to come – did not make this decision lightly. Unfortunately, the costs of operating the farm continued to far outweigh the community benefit garnered by it. Our fiduciary duties and the wishes and intentions of Eugene and Dorothy guided our decision, keeping the community benefit and advancement of youth education at the forefront of the nonprofit’s mission.

As the farm prepares for its final day of operation on Nov. 1, it will continue to operate tours through the end of October. The horses are already settled into their new home, a farm that will be better suited for the lifestyle of draft horses, which requires more physical activity than the horses were able to receive in recent years.

Thank you to all who have visited the Kavanagh Wildlife Farm over the years to partake in the Kavanaghs’ vision. Eugene and Dorothy’s legacy will live on as their nonprofit refocuses its efforts on charitable giving and supporting local youth education and activity in the areas of wildlife, farming and natural resource management.

Sincerely,
The Eugene & Dorothy Kavanagh Wildlife Farm Board of Directors

I regretfully must announce the closing of Eugene and Dorothy Kavanagh Wildlife Farm. The Farm will remain open through Nov. 1, 2024.
Due to increasing costs and lower numbers of visitors since COVID 19 in 2020, it isn't feasible to continue past this year. The Farm and equipment will be liquidated and the remaining funds will be used according to the Kavanagh's wishes for education and youth engagement.
If you wish to book a ride before we close just call Nova at 937-478-2164. The Board of Directors want to thank Nova Brown for all her dedication and hard work and wish her well in the future.
Sincerely, Board of Directors

This is swamp milkweed. It's a pretty sight to see! It grows in "swampy" soil but it will also grow in "normal" soil as well. I found 10 plants growing in the new woods. This is so exciting! Flowers are pretty much done and will drop off very soon. The butterflies love it! Everyone should add this beautiful flower to their gardens!

This is orange milkweed! Isn't it pretty? The butterflies LOVE this plant. It was hard to get pics of them so please look closely. This is growing in the new wooded area. There is also a small bunch at the wetlands. Want to see it in person? Schedule a ride around the Farm! Give us a call or shoot us a text. 937-203-7684

The milkweed and the black raspberries are really looking good. Just a little early but that's ok!

Thank goodness I saw this BEFORE I ran over it with the mower! Which is what usually happens.
