I’ve had some broody hens this year and I’ve tried several times over the past 13 years of keeping chickens to let hens hatch chicks but have never been successful. Twice we had chicks hatch that didn’t survive beyond 2 days. So I never leave the broody hens eggs. But these girls just weren’t giving up so I finally gave them some eggs. The zombie I gave two F1 olive Eggers eggs and one black copper Marans. She ate one of the OE last week, one hatched and she’s still sitting on the Marans.
The black olive Egger I gave 6 lavender ameraucana eggs. I had started them in the incubator but didn’t want to deal with chicks so after 12 days I gave them to her and it worked! 2 have hatched, waiting on 4. I set these when I thought 2 pullets were cockerels. I don’t need any more chickens!
