Bench Points and Quinn Ferreira!

We are so happy to report that Bench Points now renamed "Benny" has been adopted by our longtime friend and supporter Dr. Ixchel Mosley and her daughters. This former pony horse and stakes winner is so happy to have landed in Jamul where he is fussed over and lightly ridden all over the property (weather permitting that is, sigh). Shown here is Quinn on Benny. Everyone is so happy with Benny and he is way beyond any expectations they had. Benny is so unfazed by anything thrown at him. Truly a rock solid champion and completely as advertised!!!

Coming soon to FSF is Bench Points. After earning over $300,000 in his career, including winning a graded stakes at Del Mar and running in the SA Derby, he was a lead pony for his trainer for 3 years. Racing fans should recognize the runner he is working with: the ill-fated 2 year-old Champion, Shared Belief. It was recently decided he had worked enough and was looking for a place to rest so we were contacted by Neigh Savers. Little does he know he's going to have 12 sisters and a token brother hahaha!!

Hayley had her recheck at San Luis Rey yesterday. The surgery was a success, she got the go-ahead to foal at our regular foaling station (Celebrity Farm), and complications are not expected. She has put on a good 100 #, even looks a little pregnant now. Due date May 7! She was released into the herd today, seamless transition, eating well, finally a happy girl!

Hayley's Gift Update: FANTASTIC News! Hayley had 100% closure of the rectovaginal fistula. The foal has normal placenta and vital signs. She is now home.

Keep those prayers coming! We need to get her to heal up and sutures to close so she can be ready to safely deliver her baby.

For the first time in her life Haley's Gift has finally found her home. Thanks to all of the generous donors to the Lancaster 19 rescue these horses, pregnant mares, former boodmares, yearlings, stallions and the poor forgotten gelding will get their long overdue happy ending with a family and feel the kindness of a human touch and love that will now surround them.

It's Christmas week and two kids from Neigh Savers needed somewhere for Santa to find them. Meet Snickerdoodle! His trachea is crushed but he seems to be used to it. As long as he isn't stressed, he is good!

Will post photos of Magic Mike soon. You'll understand the name when you see him....

Well, it finally happened! Fresh Start Farm officially has its first two OTTB rescue horses! Rodney's vision, and why he named this farm Fresh Start, was to bring home racehorses who needed fresh starts, rehab, and/or R&R with a family.

The black mare on the left is Belle (Laguna Salada is her reg name and she is from the family of Best Pal) and she is 8. She had 6 starts between SA, Fairplex, and Los Al yet never broke her maiden. Her right front hoof had major damage and needs to grow out half way because of a large rip from nasty white line issues. She is serviceably sound but mainly a companion horse. She is living with Grace, the minis and goats and is very happy already!

The bay is Good Deal, a 4 year-old gelding. Apparently, since Lane's End refused to give me my Smart Strike stallion (Curlin XOXO they said I was $30 million short on the price haha!), we somehow ended up with this Smart Strike Gelding out of a Storm Cat mare who earned $250 for showing up at his only start in Los Al (hay carumba for his breeders who paid that hefty $100,000 for Smart Strike's stallion fee.....). He chipped a knee and has remodeling on both sides and some arthritis in the right front ankle. He is a trail sound guy, lots of energy today and can't wait to get him turned out in the pasture tomorrow!
