Shearing day was last Thursday so I have been airing out my fleeces since then (this is a critical aspect after shearing day)! I lay each of them out on a couple of tables for about 1 day in case they were damp or got wet for some reason. I pick thru the edges for debri, short fiber pieces, etc. They get bed rolled up again until I am ready to skirt each fiber before the next processing step depending upon what I decide to do with each fiber (yarn, roving, needle felting fiber, fiber for insoles). I have a micron tester so I also pull out 3 samples from each blanket that I will test each one for the micron (softness) for each alpaca. Plus by handling the fleeces I also get some feel for each alpaca’s blanket, always seem to get a couple of surprises (good & bad 😏).
