Today was our last day with the piggies. I’m feeling all kinds of emotions as I look back on our first journey of raising them. We gave them what I’d hope to be considered an awesome piggy life! They got to live outdoors, sunbathe, create little wallows for themselves, have shelter, access to fresh grass, roots, trees, different pastures, food and water 24/7, LOTS of special treats (even from our neighbors!), lots of pets, scratching their wiggly butts, hosing them down on hot days, and also just to watch them be happy and enjoy themselves. It’s really hard to say goodbye to something that you care for day in and day out. I’ve had a lot of people say things along the lines of “I can’t believe you are doing this!” and trust me… I couldn’t believe it either. But as my husband and I have talked, and you really think about it… if you do eat meat, this is the most ethical way to do it, and our customers know what they’re supporting! There is a HUGE disconnect of where our food comes from… it’s like people think the food just appears at the grocery stores or restaurants. And if you do eat meat, wouldn’t you rather support somebody that you know is taking really good care of the animals every single day? And you know they are never being abused for the time they are here? They aren’t trapped in cages or never getting to see daylight… It’s all about your perspective. I’ve balled my eyes out these last few days, knowing they’d be leaving us. It is incredibly hard to do… But at the end of the day, I know that Doug and I took the best care of them that we possibly could. We loved them just like any animal that crosses our path. Thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout this first pig venture for us 🫶🏻
