McCloud Farms is a 2026 Data Driven Gold Level Herd!
To earn Data Driven Herd Gold level, the highest achievable distinction , 12 traits must be collected and reported during the year. Each trait has a minimum required number of records, tailored both to the specific trait and to the individual herd’s size. The minimums are determined by the herd’s enrollment of females in the Inventory Reporting program. Gold level herds are also required to have earned MaternalPlus distinction within the Inventory Reporting program.

Collecting and reporting all these phenotypic and performance traits, allows us to measure the genetic expression of our cattle in our environment. These expressions allow each animal to differentiate themselves in our program, while the data collected also provides validity for the individual animal, improving trust for our customers in the predictability of these cattle. Data helps guide us as breeders in making the best cattle in our environment. As the saying goes, if you don’t measure it, you can’t manage it.

One of the bulls in action on picture day.

We spent the past 2 HOT days picturing our bulls and heifers for our 10th annual sale. It takes a crew to sort, wash , and prep every animal for their moment in the spotlight. All this is directed by the artist behind the lens to make sure he captures every detail. Thanks to all who came and helped make these days go smoothly. And wow, the bulls look good!

About 3 weeks out from starting our calving season with the heifers. Really excited to see how these mommas do with their first calves by Luchesse and Cornhusker.
