And now for my pour. Yes, life detoured me to the grocery store, but dinner is done so back to the drinks. My day 2 pour is Smoke Wagon uncut unfiltered. This is Batch No. 100 bottled back on September 25, 2021 and coming in at a proof of 118.5! I have really enjoyed all the Smoke House bottles I have purchased. This one is super smooth, has the perfect amount of linger. Truly is a sipping whiskey. Always hate when you have to just keep taking sip after sip because the flavor fades. Great notes of caramel and vanilla on the nose. Nice smooth leathery finish. And while the proof is higher on this, not a hazmat, it goes down very easy. Great pour for getting into the fall season. Kicking off Day 2 of Bourbon Heritage Month with a cocktail for the wife. Tonight she’s going with a Stilletto. Nice combination of bourbon, amaretto and lemon juice. And always top it off with a fancy cherry.

1792 12 Year neat

paired with

Chocolate brownie topped with bourbon caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, candied nuts & Buffalo Trace bourbon cream whipped cream
Decadent finish. The brownie was loaded with flavor and the 1792 held its own against all that sweetness and richness. Perfect close to an outstanding night of bourbon and banter.
Wonderful evening from start to finish. Thank you, 232 Downtown!

Elmer T. Lee neat

paired with

Prime cut tenderloin in cognac cream sauce, maple-glazed carrots & roasted red potatoes
The dish felt a bit overpowered by the Elmer T. Lee for my taste… so I switched to the saved Weller Antique 107.

That combination? Absolute magic. The 107 played beautifully with the tenderloin and cognac cream.

Saved the Weller 107 for later—one of my favorites—and honestly, whiskey and salad don’t go together. Still a pretty plate and a solid pour.

Time for Course no. 2: Sazerac cocktail (made with Sazerac Rye)

Cajun seafood gumbo over white rice
The gumbo had a nice kick (a little spicy for me), but the Sazerac was excellent and stood up to it perfectly. Classic cocktail, bold flavors, great match.

Weller 12 Year neat

paired with honey bourbon glazed pork belly on saffron cream sauce

The pork belly was marinated in a honey bourbon glaze and sat on that silky saffron cream. Rich, savory, and the Weller 12 cut through it beautifully.

First course set a high bar.

Buffalo Trace Old Fashioned to start the evening at 232 Downtown.
This one was dialed in perfectly—balanced, not overly sweet, and genuinely enjoyable (coming from someone who usually finds Old Fashioneds too sweet). Smooth start to a night of great pours and even better pairings.
What a way to kick things off.
