Help Settle a Friendly Farm Debate 🐄😄

Alright friends — Rebekah and I have been going back and forth on this for about a year now and we still haven’t settled it. We’re planning to raise a small herd of beef cattle on grass, sell the meat by the cut, and maybe even tan the hides for leather down the road.

Here’s the debate:

🐮 Red Devon – old-school heritage breed, super thrifty and efficient on grass

🐮 Murray Grey – famous for tender, well-marbled beef even on pasture

🐮 Beef Shorthorn – a balanced, all-around cow with great beef and excellent hides

If you’ve raised any of these — or just have an opinion — we’d love to hear it. Which one would you choose for a small, pasture-based farm in northeast Ohio… and why?

Rock Stream Farm LLC will be offering herd shares of the Jersey Cow herd in Jefferson OH. The planned start date will be later this spring. There will be a one time share cost (tbd) and a monthly boarding contract of $25. The share holder will receive a gallon of Jersey milk weekly (as available).
