We are working on some pasture restoration efforts this year to bring our three small pastures back from the w**d infestation that had taken them over. We sprayed the pastures last year to kill everything unwanted off, and today I was delighted to see thousands of white clovers starting to spring back up to help restore some nitrogen (for the grass seed) and provide a "cover" while the slower grass takes root. Will still be several more weeks (about 4-6) before the grass should be long enough to start rotational grazing again!

Breakfast line up today with Pepper Jack being the "fancy" one who wanted me to hold the bowl so he could eat from it lol 😂 We split off the "slow" eaters into a separate paddock so they actually have a chance to eat their breakfast before the faster piggies get it haha!

Our other dynamic duo is Pepper Jack & Kiss. These two are both True Blacks meaning they're all solid black but boy are they similar in body shape too. Got any guesses?

We haven't ever had alpacas of the same color before, but boy is it fun trying to tell Chloe & Loki apart. Take a guess which is which, and I'll post in the comments the answer 🧐

Shearing for 2026 was a huge success. Only had one clipped quick on poor Pepper Jack, but no other issues or injuries! Alpacas have toenails instead of hooves, and much like dog nails have quicks that carry the blood supply through the core. And also like dog nails, the black nails are so easy to quick. He's all good now & glad to have a nice fiber haul this year!

We are very excited that we are officially adding two more alpacas to our herd. Loki (brown) & Pepper Jack (black) are joining Sunset Creek Farm and are loving the adventure so far. Both are very well behaved & have been doing well fitting into the rest of the herd!

Everyone was out & enjoying the lovely weather today including the handsome Loki! 🥰

MJ (llama) took the award for our first coat "victim" for the year. At 18, which is pretty old for a llama, she is very unimpressed with this weeks weather. Pepper Jack (black), who's 13, pretty old for an alpaca, joined her today along with Bit of Honey (fawn) who has never handled extended coat well. Hope you're all staying toasty warm!

Book rebinding #3 for the year! This one was a gift, but I'm hoping to redo the full series :)

I am super happy to share that Loki is now 129.8 lbs (!!) up from 108 lbs end of October. He's gotten a lot more sass back in his step and enjoys harassing his poor "cell" mate Pepper Jack with his juvenile antics. He's getting gelded today (mostly due to his health issues not making him ideal breeder). This will help him focus his energy into producing fiber vs flirting with all the girls ;)
