Our hearts were heavy to make this decision, but we decided to try and find our 1.5-yr-old mules a new home. They came to our ranch on Nov. 2024 carrying our biggest dream - mule-drawn agriculture. We dreamed of driving our mule team with horse-drawn equipment to make hay, to haul firewood, to hunt, to carry people. We collected a series of horse-drawn equipment before bringing home our mule foals, like sickle-bar mowers, hay rakes, wagons, horse carriages...you name it. But unfortunately, we have to stop our dreams due to our current financial situation.
They came from West Elk Equine, and Katherine trained them well. We know mules will build up bad habits if not trained carefully, so we decided to get a pair of very young foals from a reputable mule trainer instead of just purchasing from someone else. We reduced our original asking price from $4500/each to $3500/each especially considering this economy, which is half of our original purchasing price for a good pair of mule foals. We don't have the financial ability nor training skills to "break" them, but they're also too young to ride or drive. We feel that if we have to pause our dreams, we might as well find someone who's able to resume training to guide them toward becoming a pair of phenomenal working mules.
They're about 14-15 hh, they can be led by rope, will lift feet for farrier, and can be led into a trailer no problem. They live freely with a wide variety of animals such as yaks, sheep, and llama.
We're in Jefferson CO(Park county), and our preferable purchasing process would be:
Schedule to see the mules and see our proof of ownership -> pay the deposit and sign a purchase contract -> wait for brand inspection(usually within a week) -> pick up mules and the brand inspection paperwork and pay off the remaining balance -> then contact West Elk Equine to register them under your name.
Please DM for more info or schedule to meet the mules. If you're interested to see them on West Elk Equine website, here are the links:
