You guys! I need to start scheduling posts more often. I am the WORST about consistently posting, and that’s like the biggest thing I need to do. I guess that’s where the adhd part of the homestead and all that comes with it comes into play - I’ve got half done all over the property, a bunch of posts I need to make and never have, and now a holiday is upon us so 😂🙏🏻 Godspeed

It doesn’t need to be pretty to function.

Everytime I post about this, it sends the internet into a frenzy.

People have the idea that things have to be perfect looking in order to work.

It doesn’t.

You can use recycled, second hand materials and still have functioning systems.

All of our chicken pens are built from recycled materials. Things my husband collected or already had.

This brooder box is a few years old and has withstood ice, snow, and hurricanes.

The only cost we have in this box is a plug to power the heat plate.

SN: those are car mats on top of it.

Same scenario with our other chicken pens. Minimal cost but they have been withstood the test of time.

The internet will have you thinking your coops need this or that. They need to be built from the best materials. Or you should order a pre-fab one. You don’t need any of that. The pre-fabs will fall apart in a few months.

You can collect materials from various places. The side of the road is a good one. You’re cleaning up litter. You can also find a lot of deals on Marketplace. Sometimes you can also find stuff in livestock groups. You just have to be resourceful.

The chickens do not and will not care. More than likely they’ll just 💩 all over the fancy stuff anyway. They have no respect. 🤣

Long day mulching the garden area - and bub picking as many daffodils as he can find before they stop blooming.

I’m ready to plant but I’m sure we’ll have another cold snap - what are you guys most looking forward to this year?

We’ll be doing cattle panel trellis for the first time this season, I’m ready to get them up before it gets too hot outside 🫩
