Could American vineyards ever achieve Grand Cru status? Cleo Pahlmeyer thinks so—and she’s making the case with Wayfarer, her family’s Sonoma Coast vineyard perched above the fog line on prized Goldridge soil. First planted in 2002 with guidance from Helen Turley and David Abreu, Wayfarer produces Pinot Noir and Chardonnay marked by luminous structure, minerality, and age-worthy depth. While the U.S. lacks France’s centuries-old classification system, Pahlmeyer believes quality, heritage, and consistency will ultimately define America’s “Grand Crus”—and that Wayfarer already fits the bill.

Come along with Cleo on the drive to Wayfarer Vineyard to see what makes the location so special. Just 4 miles from the Pacific and perched on the second ridge line in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA, Wayfarer is a warm spot in a cool region, surrounded by redwood forests and chilled by ocean air.

There are many opinions on The French Laundry (see recent controversy and comments in the SF Chronicle đź“°).

I’m just here to share my personal experience.

My family and I had a truly special meal and memorable evening at The French Laundry celebrating my little brother’s college gradation. Every dish was perfectly flavorful and luxurious, and the experience was warm and generous. In a time when the conversation around winery hospitality is centering around exceptional and unique experiences (vs. wine flights and cheese boards), I left The French Laundry both well-fed and inspired. ❤️

This spring, we took a big step forward in sustainable farming: turning our vineyard prunings into biochar. 🌱🔥

Unlike traditional burning, our new open-top kiln method creates zero smoke and transforms waste into a powerful carbon sink—locking in carbon instead of releasing it. The result? Better air quality and better soil.

Adding biochar to our organically farmed vineyard improves microbial activity, locks in nutrients, and boosts groundwater retention—all of which help our vines grow stronger, naturally. The payoff in the glass? Wines with refined tannins, vibrant acidity, and pure aromatics.

It’s just one of the many ways we’re caring for our land—so this estate can thrive for generations to come. ♻️🍷
