After a really challenging spring things are finally happening here on the homestead. I have a couple small pumpkin plants that have popped up in my bank garden. I finally got a small row of potatoes in. I uncovered my pallet planters and got corn, pumpkin, and sweet peppers started. Felt good to get started!

Dad planted two apple trees when I was maybe 7-8 years old along with a peach that didn't make it a year. A couple years ago we lost an apple. In October half of the surviving one fell over in a wind storm. This afternoon I got around to cleaning it up and figured I'd cut the rest down thinking it was rotten all the way through. But after cleaning up all the rotting stuff I think it may not be after all. I'm going to trim off all the small stuff so it doesn't waste its energy trying to grow and we will see what happens. I've seen trees do weirder things. What do you think, is it savable?

It's a bleak, cold and windy day on the ol Homestead. I'm in full hibernation mode and ready for spring. But what really keeps me looking forward is the countdowns and signs.
100 days till Knoebels opens
Seed catalogs coming
Food trucks and ice cream places starting to prepare
31 days till the Daytona 500
Concert announcements
Campgrounds scheduling preseason clean up days

I know we have a long way to go and The next 6-8 weeks can be brutal but I'm always looking for any signs the are coming.
