A favorite in our household is Key lime Pie. My husband has been such a help to me this past week and still is by taking care of me and picking up the slack around the house. So, since I am doing better, I decided to make his favorite! I couldn’t ask for a batter husband. 🥰

Good morning everybody! It’s going to be another hot one here in Arkansas..🥵 Don’t forget to check on your babies that are outside in this heat! I have been giving fresh water to everything twice a day, plus we have fans going.
We would like to introduce one of our new members here on the farm, this is Lighting. He is a white leghorn rooster; our white leghorn hens needed a man. 😂😂 A couple fun facts about white leghorns is they are known for their egg laying abilities and they lay a white egg. As they age, the eggs get bigger.
We hope everyone has a Blessed weekend! Try to stay cool!

Here it is, the day we have been waiting for!! 21 days of patiently waiting, HATCHING DAY IS HERE!!!! When we woke up this morning I pretty much ran to the incubator because…ya know…BABIES!!! We have 6 littles so far and multiple with pips! So, to finish up our 21 day chick development blog, today the chick has fully absorbed the yolk sac and blood supply. It now has a belly button where its stomach closed after absorption. The chick will hatch by pushing its beak through the air cell and began breathing on its own for the first time. It will use its egg tooth to pip the shell and start to cut a circle around the egg. The chick will rest and rotate as needed to fully open the top of the shell so that it can kick out of the bottom part. After hatching, the chick will be exhausted so it is important for it to rest. While it rests, it will be able to dry and allow its naval opening to heal. Eventually it will stand and start to walk around when it regains its strength. So here it is, 21 days of incubation development. I hope someone else learned something like I have, and I hope y’all enjoyed it! This has been fun. Now to decide on our next homestead blog. After all the babies hatch, I will keep y’all updated until they go to there forever homes!

Well, I didn’t get to post yesterday’s update due to being gone all day, but when we got home last night, we had little pips! I'd like to note that yesterday was day 20. So on day 20, the chick is in full preparation to begin hatch. The yolk is still being absorbed and is about halfway absorbed. It needs to be completely absorbed before the chick can hatch safely. The blood in the vessels of the chorioallantoic membrane begin to empty as the chick absorbs the blood within itself just like it absorbs the yolk. This makes the membrane become sticky and less important to the chick as it will soon pip through the membrane and start breathing fresh air with its lungs for the first time. It is extremely important that the humidity level at hatching time is higher than the incubation period prior to hatch. If there is not enough humidity during hatch the membrane is at risk of drying out and hardening and making it impossible for the chick to pip through and ultimately causing the chick to die before making it out of the shell. We have had this happen once before and it was so sad…🥺 but WE SHOULD HAVE BABIES BY MORNING!!!! 🐣🐣🐣
