Tennessee's farms and forests added $103 billion to our state's economy in 2024.

That's 11% of everything our entire state produces, grown right here in our communities. And local food sales? They pile on another $65 million a year on top of that!

Tennessee agriculture employs roughly 342,000 people across the state. Every time you buy local, you're helping keep those jobs and those families, right here in Tennessee. 🧡🤍🧡🤍

It's ramping time - and so it's time for my "crazy ramp lady" nature to come out full force.
Harvesting ramps (Allium tricoccum) is a springtime tradition here in Southern Appalachia, but let’s do it responsibly! We all want future generations to enjoy the bounty of the hills. 🌱 Did you know? Ramps take 5 to 7 years to grow and mature, so it’s crucial to only take the stems in groups of 100 or more plants while leaving the root system intact. This allows the root systems to spread after the plant we see each Spring dies back, so they reappear in larger numbers the following year. Remember to check Tennessee's state and US federal guidelines before doing any foraging; there are limits and rules on where and when you can dig ramps. Together, we can enjoy our favorite soup bean side dish (and bad breath) for decades to come, while preserving our beautiful ecosystem for future generations!

Posting a bit late today, but we are thankful to our veterans far and wide, past and present. A special heartfelt shout out to the men who have and continue to help our farm exist, Rossie Simerly, Arnold’s father, who served in WW1, and Scott Ritchie, our chosen papaw, for their bravery and service. 💙
