Grandpa Nathan was the first of a long line of entrepreneurial Calhouns. He settled in the farming town of Monterey, Louisiana, in 1846. Ever the visionary, he built the area's first grist mill to process his bountiful harvest of corn, eliminating the need for dependence on out-of-town mills. Over a hundred years later, Grandson Nathan Patrick Calhoun conceived his idea from Grandpa Nathan. He rea

soned that Southern families used hundreds of pounds of cornmeal to bake and fry with each year. Why should they buy from far-away mills when a much better stone-ground product could be produced right on the farm? Patrick formulated his family's favorite recipes using stone-ground cornmeal with an eye for the future and a remembrance of the past. This led to a full line of desserts such as peach cobbler and pecan pie, cornbreads, and coating mixes. Today, Calhoun Bend Mill ships its products nationwide. We are proud to acknowledge the Lord as the Owner of our company. No decisions are made without first consulting Him. Because of His guidance, we have been blessed bountifully. Here’s the story of our humble beginnings:

🏡📍Great, Great Grandpa Nathan Calhoun was from a long line of entrepreneurial Calhoun’s, having roots in South Carolina with the family moving westward and resettling in Monterey, Louisiana, in 1852.

🛠️Ever the visionary, he built the area’s first grist mill by the river; this area of the Black River became known as “Calhoun Bend.“

💡Over 130 years later, Great Grandson Nathan Patrick Calhoun found inspiration for his future from working on the family farm and his mother’s cooking! In 1988, Patrick and his brother Jesse purchased a gristmill and began producing cornmeal.

🚗🛒Patrick began distributing and selling the products to grocery stores from the trunk of his Honda Accord while attending college.

🥣 With an eye for the future and a remembrance of the past, Patrick and his wife, Monica, developed a line of mixes based on recipes from his mother and other family members, and through perseverance and dedication worked to establish the business.

🌎🌐Today, Calhoun Bend Mill products are available in grocery stores and restaurants across the U.S. and internationally.

📖✝️Calhoun Bend Mill prints Bible references on its cartons. Some of the scriptural references have included John 3:16, Philippians 4:6-7 and Proverbs 3:5-6. Early on, Patrick and Monica decided to use their company to share their faith, a commitment that has remained steadfast ever since.
