Thinking about a water treatment system? Before you spend a dollar, there are a few things worth knowing — starting with the fact that most homeowners buy a system before ever testing their water.

Water treatment is not one-size-fits-all. A system that is right for one home can be completely wrong for another. The only way to know what your home actually needs is to test the water first. And the only way to know if a provider is trustworthy is to see how they handle that first step.

This post walks through what each type of system does, the right questions to ask any provider, and the red flags that tell you to walk away. Whether you are just starting to research or have already been quoted something, this is a useful read. Link in comments!👇

We spend about 90% of our time indoors, but almost nobody thinks about what is in the air they are breathing in their own home.

The EPA has consistently found that indoor air is 2-5x more polluted than outdoor air. The sources — VOCs from household products, mold spores, pet dander, bacteria — are invisible and largely unaddressed by standard HVAC filters, which only capture what passes through them while the system is running.

That is the difference between passive filtration and active purification. This post explains what is actually in indoor air, how active purification technology works (it is cleared by the FDA as a Class II Medical Device), and which households tend to notice the biggest difference.

Worth a read if you or someone in your household has allergies, asthma, pets, or a home that is older or recently renovated. Link in the comments!👇

Nearly a decade of water tests across Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol, and the surrounding communities reveals the same patterns over and over — and they are not random. They follow our region's geology, water sources, and infrastructure.

Johnson City's EWG data shows disinfection byproducts at 52 to 64 times above health guidelines. Hardness is the regional norm across all Tri-Cities municipal supplies. Well water in our area consistently shows iron, bacteria, sulfur, and nitrate concerns — with no regulatory oversight protecting homeowners who rely on private wells.

This blog post walks through what we actually find in northeast Tennessee homes — by water source, by city, and by the patterns that repeat. If you have wondered what is in your water, this is a good place to start. 👇

Your tap water is "legal", but is it actually healthy? Those are two very different questions, and the gap between them is wider than most people realize.

The EPA's water standards were designed to prevent acute public health crises, not to optimize long-term health. Legal limits for many contaminants haven't been meaningfully updated in nearly 20 years. And PFAS : "forever chemicals" linked to cancer, thyroid disease, and immune problems — went without any federal limits until 2024, with utilities not required to comply until 2031.

This post breaks down what government water standards actually mean, why the PFAS story matters for Tri-Cities homeowners, and what you can do right now - without waiting for regulators to catch up. Worth a read if your family drinks tap water. 👇
