Shifting gears. It has been a month since the restaurant transition. Wholly Cow Cafe is doing a great job keeping the same quality of food we had at Wholly Cow. I am so proud of their hard work and desire to keep our community fed.

With that said. We are having success with our new tallow skincare line. It is starting to gain online traffic as well as sales in Wholly Cow Cafe. We will be heading to farmers markets with our tallow and we can’t wait for you to try them.

Now let’s talk candles.
Candles-there are a million options for candles out there. So why pursue it? Really how does that tie in with your meat and farming? As if I don’t have enough on my plate? I absolutely do. However, this endeavor is more near and dear to my heart than just about any of the products we sell.

Why? Here it is.
If you know me, you know I have quite the health journey. It has a been a long, long struggle finding answers and solutions without a hundred different pills, which I’m not on any for the three auto-immunes I have been diagnosed with. Part of my recovery journey started with finding non-toxic products. First it was our all-natural, grass-fed & finished beef. Second, creating a non-toxic tallow skincare line. Third step, creating non-toxic everyday products we use on a daily basis. So this is where candles come into the picture.

I love burning candles. It’s hard to find one that doesn’t bother me or my family. It all started when my sister was diagnosed with 100% benzene poisoning in 2016. It got to the point she was almost immobile and doctors were ready to put in a pacemaker. After lots of digging, multiple days in the hospitals, and fighting for other answers and options, a doctor down in Florida found out the root of the issue. Her body was reacting to an overload of benzene. How do you get that??
Well let me explain. It can be found on and in new carpet, paint, fuels, fragrances, perfumes, detergents, cleaners, and on and on. For years, her body would shut down if exposed to any of these. So if you can imagine, it was a daily battle. She would do the laundry and get sick. Clean and get sick. Wear perfume and get sick. Move into a new house and get sick.

Fast forward years later and her battle along with my health journey inspired me to review my lifestyle. What was I eating that made me feel bad, what cleaners were I using, lotions, shampoos, perfumes, candles…all of the things that should be friendly, but weren’t.
After all, if it looks good, feels good, smells good, it’s good….right?

So last year I set out on an adventure to create a candle for my sister. One she could burn and feel good. One that her family could use and not cause her to fall ill. With lots of research for the cleanest fragrances, highest quality containers, and all-natural SOY FREE wax, we did it.

The mission has been accomplished and she can now partake in something that seriously disrupted her life. You will never see her walking into a Bath & Body works…ever…for that very reason. She avoids the perfumes counters in Dillards and the malls. It is that serious. No Tide pods, no commercial cleaners, nothing of that nature.

So out of years of heartache and tears watching her struggle and myself, something came about that is beautiful.
Beauty from ashes. So here it is. Now you too can enjoy these non-toxic candles.
We are getting ready to launch them all online at whollycowmarket.com.
Stay tuned!

Wholly Cow! These bulls are weight gaining and taking a break until mating season starts again in July. On average, these fellas lose 150lbs each during breeding season. They burn lots of calories. Between the 9 of them they can breed around 450 cows. We purchase our bulls from Pharo Cattle . Their values & core beliefs align with ours. They are bred to produce shorter, smaller calves for calving ease. Our dryer climates, produce shorter grasses, sustainable for smaller framed cows not requiring as much. Their genetics are also strong in producing tender grass-fed beef. Our bulls are usually out on pasture, but to give the cows a break, we have them close to our home, getting pampered.

Wholly Cow! Rancher’s wife update. Mother’s Day was a good one and was spent in typical farm life fashion-working. However, this work looked very different than normal daily farm and ranch chores. Ever since Rachel LaFollette, owner of Orca Business Consulting and Michelle started working together, Wholly Cow Market has had a new facelift and upgrade in marketing, branding, and sales. Three years ago Rachel rebranded Wholly Cow Market. Since then sh created their new website, designed all of the tallow product labeling, helped to scale their meat sales, and brought Shannon McTighe, owner and photographer of on board. Shannon is the photographer behind all of the beautiful Wholly Cow Market website photos. Since then, Wholly Cow branding has been elevated to a new level of professionalism. We can’t wait to see, use, and share the beautiful photography Shannon has created. Stay tuned for the final photo shoot results! Thank you Rachel & Shannon for caring about our business as much as you do your own. It shows! # ’s day
