Took advantage of the nice evening to set up our temporary shelter for our new Mini Hereford, Callie (short for Caliente because she was a bit "spicy" when she got to the farm). Fortunately she has calmed down significantly, and is doing much better with walking on the halter tonight. But I had to take pics of her and Wee Man with the setting sun.

When your best friend is way bigger than you are. Meet Duck Duck the goose and Friend the Serama chicken. Duck Duck was a sole hatch from incubated eggs, and Friend was orphaned/hurt chick as he was surprise hatch from one of our free-ranging hens. Needless to say, there was no sense to have two separate brooders at the time, so they were raised with each other. And now, they are inseparable....they get very upset when one can't see the other.

It's been awhile since we last posted (time flies), but we are back to show a new "project" we tried....incubating quail eggs. They are so cute, but I'm going to call them mice birds because that's exactly what they remind me of. Small, skittish, crazy mice.

New adventures...breeding rabbits. Our first litter of Lionhead babies were born on October 12th. They are getting mobile and opening their eyes. Meet Poe Farmette Chubbs Peterson (aka Chubbs...the black) and Poe Farmette Happy Gilmore (aka Happy...the REW). Hopefully next time I can get better pictures.

1 month and counting to the Hartford Independent Fair. Anyone who knows us knows that we eat, live and breathe the fair. A throwback from last year.... inspiration to keep us motivated. Summer time prep is hard work and never ending! Especially with two kids showing this year.

If anyone is looking to purchase a poultry tractor/coop, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Port-A-Coop. Amish made in Ohio, with a heavy steel frame (versus light aluminum), this company has THE BEST customer service hands down!

After losing both of ours in the tornado, my husband (who is an Auto Body tech) "fixed" the one, but it needed a new tarp. After inquiring about purchasing a replacement tarp, not only did they offer a new tarp, but also offered a whole replacement of our 10x12 free of charge!

They can be ordered online, but there are multiple dealers across the state/country.... including Champion Feeds in Delaware, Hershberger Feeds in Danville, etc.

Be sure to check them out! We loved ours, before, and even more so after this!

I never got to officially introduce him, but this is my man Big Blue. He's the one that rode home in the back of the car from the auction. He's a turkey that acts more like a dog. He is an absolute love bug, and always has to be around you. He loves to be petted, waits for the school bus, and plays basketball with the kids. If anything ever happens to this turkey I will be devastated. He's my best auction buy ever!
