Yesterday 21 baby chicks joined the homestead! We have a good flock of laying hens but we get only enough eggs to feed our family. We are wanting to add some chickens so we can have some eggs to share with you guys! 7 of these girls are white egg layers and 14 lay brown eggs! We are looking forward to having many more eggs next summer!

This is one of several red winged black bird nests we have found. They like to nest in open grass land like this.

We stopped feeding hay and transitioned into rotational grazing about a week ago. We move them to a new area every day this time of year when the grass is growing fast to give it some time to build “solar panel” or leaf surface area. That translates to a larger area for a shorter amount of time.

This little guy was born yesterday. We didn’t think she was going to have a calf until May.

What a surprise lol!

If I had to guess i think he would have rather been born in May also.
