Last night’s sky gave us a quiet moment on the homestead. The barn lights, the flag in the loft window, and the stillness of the paddocks reminded us why we do this. We care for the animals, work toward being self-sustaining, and find peace in farming with the land.

On the best days and the challenging ones, moments like this help us see how far we have come and how much this dream continues to grow.

🚜🌾 Hay Day – Round 2 at H&M Homestead! 🌾🚜

The barn’s not full yet — and tomorrow we’re bringing in another big load of hay! We’re expecting to roll in around 2:00 PM, and we’d love some extra hands to help unload and stack.

If you’ve got a little time and don’t mind a good farm workout, come join the fun! Fresh air, good company, the smell of fresh-cut hay, and plenty of laughs are guaranteed. 🌿🐴

📍 Where: H&M Homestead
⏰ When: Tomorrow at 2:00 PM (message us if you plan to help so we can keep you posted if timing shifts)
💪 What to bring: Work gloves, sturdy shoes, and your farm-strong energy.

🚜🌾 Hay Day at H&M Homestead! 🌾🚜

It’s that time again — the barn is about to get restocked! We’re heading out today to bring in a fresh load of hay, and we could use some extra hands this afternoon/evening when we roll back in.

Whether you’ve tossed bales before or just want to be part of the action, this is a great way to get some fresh air, a little workout, and share a few laughs. Bonus points if you love the smell of fresh-cut hay! 🌿🐴

📍 Where: H&M Homestead
⏰ When: This afternoon/evening — we’ll post when we’re on our way back so you can be ready.
💪 What to bring: Work gloves, sturdy shoes, and a good attitude.

🐓🐑🐐 2025 Animal Health Programs! 🐖🐄🐎

The Maine Animal Health Team (Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry) and UMaine Cooperative Extension's Dr. Dana Hill and Dr. Rachel White are partnering on a project titled, "Reaching All Farm-Raised Animals: Assessment, Outreach, and Education on Farm Biosecurity and Disease Outbreak Preparedness in Maine for Small and Diverse Livestock Farms." This is funded through a disease preparedness grant from USDA.

Animal health education was the highest ranked need reported by livestock producers in a recent state-wide survey. This project brings animal health workshops, webinars, and resources to livestock farmers across the state. Additionally, participation in these events qualify farmers to receive a farm-specific biosecurity consultation, biosecurity materials, and disease/ health testing at the UMaine Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.
