If you've ever met Smokin' Through the Night, you've met Mrs. Barbara, my mom. ❤️
Over the course of mom's life, she found lots of things she loved but BBQ and Rick Reeves are the ones that stuck. The opportunity to compete on this team with my dad as well as travel around cooking and judging KCBS events is one she would usually jump at. That lady has gone all over from Missouri to Louisiana and back- teaching college boys how to judge, perfectly placing parsley leaves with tweezers, and making so many friends that you can't count them on both hands and all your toes.
Our team had the first cook this weekend in Downtown Jonesboro without our MVP and we missed her so much. Especially when it came time to put meat in the boxes!
We had a decent cook- 10th in Chicken, 11th in Brisket, we don't have to talk about ribs and pork.
We are super honored that mom was recognized for the work she did in the past for this competition by Darrin May at the awards ceremony.
We also wish we could find one of the judges in a back alley somewhere because how did they give us all 7s on ribs without a comment card!?! 🤣
So Smokin' Through the Night looked a little different last weekend and it is and will be. But we want to say 'Thank you' to the folks that helped us out with boxes, the ones who swung by to say hi, and the ones that made Mom feel the love in this community 😊
We'll be back!! After we practice our ribs a little bit...
