We currently offer blood pregnancy detection, BVD, Johne's, and CAE/OPP, and CL testing for cattle, sheep, goats, deer, and bison/buffalo. We also have blood collection supplies in stock for customers to purchase. For submission forms, pricing, and shipping information please visit our website.

Delta Livestock Diagnostics will be closed Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day. Please plan sample shipments accordingly and avoid sending samples that may arrive over the holiday weekend.

🐔 Poultry Disease Spotlight: Mycoplasma synoviae (MS)

Mycoplasma synoviae (MS) is a bacterial pathogen that primarily affects chickens and turkeys. While clinical signs aren’t always obvious, stressed birds or those with concurrent infections may develop symptoms such as lameness, swollen hocks and footpads, increased sitting, or pale bluish head parts.

MS can spread through eggs, humans, and other birds, and infected birds may remain carriers for life. Help reduce the risk in your flock:
• Purchase birds from MS-free flocks
• Quarantine new birds for 30 days before introducing them to your flock
• Practice strong biosecurity, including dedicated shoes and clothing and regular cleaning
• Incorporate routine diagnostic testing

Our team had a great time in College Station connecting with producers, veterinarians, educators, and others across the beef cattle industry. With around 1,700 attendees, the Beef Cattle Short Course gave us the opportunity to showcase our diagnostic capabilities, share resources, and have conversations about practical testing solutions for operations of all sizes.

We’re grateful to everyone who stopped by to meet with our team and learn more about Delta Livestock Diagnostics. We’re looking forward to continuing the conversations and connections made at the conference!

Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV) is a highly contagious respiratory disease in chickens, with multiple strains that can vary by region.
Signs of IBV can include:
• Coughing and sneezing
• Tracheal rales
• Conjunctivitis
• Difficulty breathing
• Decreased appetite
• Lethargy
• Decreased egg production or misshapen eggs

Because these symptoms can be similar to other poultry diseases, laboratory diagnosis is necessary for the respiratory form of IBV before determining a treatment approach. Delta Livestock Diagnostics offers poultry testing to help identify what may be affecting your flock and provide information that can help guide your herd health plan.

📚🐂 Our team has been learning so much at the Beef Cattle Short Course over the past few days! One topic that continues to stand out is the importance of biosecurity in protecting herd health. 🐄

A few key takeaways:

• Quarantine new arrivals for a minimum of 14–21 days in a separate, well-fenced area with dedicated water sources and no nose-to-nose contact.
• Introduce new cattle in a way that minimizes stress, and closely monitor them for 2–4 weeks after commingling. Keep good records throughout the process.
• Clean boots and equipment to prevent manure from moving between operations.
• Minimize interactions between cattle and wildlife.
• Control both internal and external parasites.
• Disinfect equipment used for calving, castration, dehorning, tagging, and implanting.
• Change needles between animals to help reduce the spread of blood-borne diseases, such as anaplasmosis.

Strong biosecurity practices are one of the best investments you can make in your herd. Pairing those practices with routine diagnostic testing can help you identify potential health concerns early and make informed management decisions.
