Humbled by the support of folks at Jonesborough Farmers Market. No market last week due to the festival and the weather forecast looked bad for this week. I was stressed to say the least. Folks came out in the rain and eventually we saw some sunshine. I’ve made some good decisions in life and some bad decisions as well. When we bought the land in Surgoinsville three years ago it put us between Knoxville 1.5hrs to our west and Jonesborough 1hr to our east. There are other farmers markets in Kingsport, Johnson City and smaller towns within a radius but we decided on Jonesborough after a visit to the downtown three years ago. I can’t say it was one thing but more so a collection of things that tipped us in that direction. We happened to visit during the Pumpkin Festival and the wholesome family vibes were great. We ducked into Boone Street Market that sells all sorts of locally grown and produced goods. Then we headed across the street to Mill Spring Makers Market and got coffee next door at the Corner Cup. There’s a shared value and commitment to something more than just convenience or cost. It’s hard to describe but there’s clearly a network of great people and we appreciate being a part of it. I had a previous farm in another lifetime and I was a weekly vendor at Market Square farmers market in Knoxville which has become one of the biggest in the country. I had great memories of that market but sometimes in life you just can’t go back. Forward we went with our decision to throw our lot in with Jonesborough, and so glad we did.
