Stone Ledge update.
We had a great hunting season with old friends and a few new ones. In conjunction with the Military Warrior Support Foundation, we hosted 3 groups of Purple Heart recipients of which two groups were women (with one Gold Star Mom who had lost her son). Everyone was able to take an animal and all had a great time. Of all who participate with this endeavor, I think Kent and I get the most from it. Kent's niece baked cupcakes for one groups and they in turn all participated in sending her a note of thanks. It doesn't get any better than that! We are looking forward to hosting at least 2 more groups this coming season.
We had turkey hunts in the spring with lots of success on Tom's.
Our efforts to run water across the ranch continue as well as our effort to clear cedar. Kent's decided there is no such thing as a good cedar tree - all must go.
We have been blessed with rain throughout the fall and into the spring. The oak trees are growing at an amazing rate and the grass is green and more than a foot tall. We have added significantly to our herds. We have added 6 high quality does that were bred to the buck in the attached video. As of today, we have had 11 fawns out of the 6 doe with 7 being bucks. 3-4 years from now, we will have some amazing deer. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Another is a buck that was born in our pastures and not in the breed pen - he already is sporting 21 points and should add mass and length in the next 5 weeks. Can't wait to see how many more off these guys are out there!
The red deer are maturing nicely. Another picture shows 2 of our 5 year old stags. The one in the front has the larger set of antlers but the one in the back supports double drop tines. We have approximately 15 hines and lots of fawns showing up. We should have abundance in a few years.
Newly added are Aoudad, Mouflon, Texas Dall and Painted Desert sheep. We have also added a herd of Dybowski Sika deer.
The only Issue we face this year is Kinder Morgan putting 1.6 miles of 42"pipe across a couple of our pastures. We don't think this will hamper the upcoming hunting season but they have been a little difficult and details have not been finalized.
We are excited about the upcoming hunting season and look forward to seeing many of you.
