Tonight I had over 30 animals in the food plot at tree. The largest was this monster non typical axis buck in velvet! This spotted fallow was the only one not feeding before the cold front.

We thoroughly enjoyed having this group at Escondido Ranch and look forward to their return soon.

These Axis in velvet make absolutely stunning mounts! Unlike native deer, Axis bucks shed their antlers based on their birth cycle rather than a specific season. This allows hunters the unique opportunity to pursue them year-round — and occasionally harvest one still in velvet!

We truly appreciate everyone who has reached out to check on us here at Escondido Ranch. While we did experience flooding, we’re grateful to share that everyone is safe.

Our hearts are heavy for our neighbors in Kerrville, Hunt, and Ingram who have been deeply impacted. The devastation in the area is heartbreaking, and we’re keeping our entire Hill Country community in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. 💔🙏
