Samuel is probably one of my favorite goats we’ve raised here in on Hewitt Acres, he is just like his daddy ❤️

Wouldn’t have it any other way ❤️ neither would Mr Farmer 🙃

A few new faces around farm you may not have met ❤️
Quibbley came to our farm this week to be used as a boar, and we can’t wait for babies 🤩 🐽
Amelia is thrilled that these babies made It

And Samuel, the sweetest, most fun guy! 🐐

Amelia and her first deer! Last weekend Amelia, and 4 other kids, had the opportunity to do a mentor hunt with Hunt Nebraska.
We have eaten back strap steaks and fried loin, heart and liver.
The livestock guardians eat the meat and fat scraps, and the carcass.
Finally over 40 pounds of ground venison went into the freezer.

Deer #3 is processed and I wanted to tell you about some of my favorite new things!

A majority of our deer gets ground and froze to use in any meal that ground beef is used. We do smoke and eat the back straps fresh.

With this deer we froze a few roasts, ate the back straps, and then cubed the rest of the meat. This is my first go at using an electric pressure canner. Processing 4 quarts at a time is slow but it’s SO easy, and outside deer, I generally don’t have huge amounts to can. I’m really excited to continue using it for meats and bone broth!

My new favorite knife also deserves a shout out! With a very reasonable price tag, the blade is super sharp and stays sharp! I use 2 different Victorinox knives for processing, but this is my favorite!

Oh, and my new tubs are so handy! The perfect size, and fit better in my fridge than my meat totes!

The kid’s pretty great too 💙

On our farm...

Here at Hewitt Acres a typical day starts with breakfast with our fresh raw goats milk. After breakfast it’s outside to get animals taken care of!

The kids are in charge of feeding and watering the dogs, letting the chickens into the run, putting the goats out to the appropriate pastures, and taking care of the cats.

Amelia is an amazing help with milking the girls. We work on this together! Then it’s back inside to start school!

We got our first Nigerian Dwarf babies in the summer of 2020 and we are over the moon with their sweet, sassy personalities! Archibald and Gertrude have been such a fun addition to Hewitt Acres! We have expanded our herd and we are thrilled with the fresh raw milk and fun we’re having with them all. We can’t wait to see where this venture goes, into milk products and most important, tiny baby goats in the spring!
