We love our donuts at Big Rock Market! Made fresh every morning!

And check out those blueberries! Grown by our very own Russell Ketchum! πŸ«πŸ’™

Happy Independence Weekend! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²

Bruce is doing better and better since June 19th. It was quite bad until then. Scary bad. He had a partial dose of chemo June 24, and he's tolerating it much better. He hasn't stopped eating, drinking, or walking! πŸ‘£

He almost seems not ill, other than skinny and thinned hair. And tired, but it's so hot, and we don't have central air in either home, so, ick. πŸ”₯

He started wearing a glucose reader early June. Today's was the best reading yet. Weeha!!! So that's going better, too. πŸ₯°

And ... nex week ... we'll have some cows come home to roost. I've asked for the day off to take 100s of photos of this monumental event. πŸ“Έ

Bruce's herd of cow mammas will be a reality soon. πŸ‚πŸƒπŸ„β€

The photo is of Bruce's 1st tomato from his plant by the house. πŸ…

Today, when we got the "take home" chemo removed, the RN is a daughter of Boonzaaijer, the best baker Kalamazoo had (in my delicious opinion). It was so nice to chat with her for a while about Bruce's apples and her family's bakery. Both former Kalamazoo staples.

Things around the Bourner Orchard and Farm are changing. This year has already been a bumpy ride.

For the 1st year since the 1914 planting of the apple trees, which started producing fruit around 1920, there will not be fruit at Bourners Orchards.

On April 9th, my brother Bruce Bourner was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. Without chemo, he'd be gone within a few months. With chemo, we may have about a year or more with him.

This cancer is often diagnosed at stage IV, because it is silent until it's severe. We've done the research, and he's getting the best treatment possible. The ongoing research for this cancer are mostly for developing early screening and for stages I and II (which have a possibility of remission). These do not apply to Bruce's situation. This is one of the worst and most aggressive cancers. Love and respect of Bruce's wishes are vital to his treatment plan.

Bruce has opted for chemo. Today is his 2nd round. So long as he's able to continue with the chemo every 2 weeks, he will be with us. We are treasuring this time with him.

We are fortunate that West Michigan Cancer Center follows the top standard treatment protocols for pancreatic cancer. Bruce received this diagnosis while in good health otherwise, which is important to receive chemo. He is strong and going about the business of living. He even cut wood yesterday for his wood burning stove. Just for a few minutes, but more power to him.

He has a solid support system. Your prayers, respect of his wishes, and kindness toward him are part of his community of support.

Please let me know if you'd like to visit so that I may let him know of your interest.

Thank you,
Kim Bourner
