If you know, you know… this is Chewy. ❤️🐄

She’s been stealing hearts during cow cuddling sessions for years, and she’s still my favorite girl.

She’s curious, affectionate, a little nosy, and she loves being the center of attention. In fact, anyone who’s cuddled with Chewy knows that if another cow decides they’d like a little attention too… Chewy is NOT impressed. 😂 She can get just a tiny bit jealous when she has to share her people.

And apparently she also believes every camera needs an extreme close-up. 😂

Now I’m curious…

Five years ago… our cheesemaking equipment finally arrived from the Netherlands! 🇳🇱🧀

After waiting months for it to make its way here, the shipping container finally pulled into our farm. We were SO excited!

Then we opened it. 😳 🤢

Seawater had gotten inside, which meant days of cleaning cheese molds and nettings and sanding our wooden aging boards. Thankfully, we were able to get everything cleaned up and looking like new.

And a fun fact about these pictures… neither one of us knew how to make our cheese yet! 😂

We had originally signed up for a cheesemaking course through MSU Extension, but since Gouda was what we wanted to make, we decided to learn from a Dutch couple who came right here to our farm and taught both of us together, using our own milk, our new equipment and our very own facility.

Our post that day ended with:

“Get ready to have some of the best Gouda Cheese you’ve ever had in your life.”

Pretty bold considering we hadn’t made a single wheel yet. 😂

Five years later, that same equipment has helped us make thousands of pounds of Gouda, create our own recipes and varieties, age wheels for years, and earn awards and recognition in world, national and local competitions.

What an adventure these five years have been. ❤️🧀

When we have a brand-new calf out in the pasture, we like to bring mama and baby back to the barn for the night. We don’t like leaving one cow and calf out by themselves, and young calves have a knack for disappearing into the woods! We’d rather have them somewhere we can keep a close eye on them while they learn the routine.

If you watch the video, you’ll also see two of our German Shepherds making the trip with us. They know the job and will help guide the cows if needed. Then, because they’re dogs… they end the evening by jumping into the biggest muddy puddle they can find. 🤣

The wait is over… Lavender Ice Cream is back!

We’ll have it in the dipping cabinet starting Thursday. Made right here on the farm with real culinary lavender, it’s one of our favorite seasonal flavors and only available for a limited time.
