✨It’s that time of year again for Lamanchas: Breeding Season! ✨

From August to January, Lamanchas fall in LOVE🐐💛🐐 Unlike most other goat breeds, Lamanchas are seasonal breeders, meaning their heat cycles tie closely with daylight length. ☀️It’s God’s way of ensuring that kids are born in the spring, when the weather is more favorable.

This year, our herd started showing signs of heat in August. That was our cue to move the bucks far away from the does, otherwise the bucks get wise and try to catch a doe too early 🤪🙈 I like to wait until November/December to breed.

Here in Northern Michigan, March is still very cold, so I plan my kiddings for end of April or early May. This is usually a lot later than most breeders, and it rules me out for selling early spring babies, but it’s important to me that kids are born healthy and safe.

So, here’s to breeding season! 🥂✨ I’ll be sharing which couples tie the knot this season, and keep you updated on pregnancies. So excited for another kidding season!

While I was busy shearing the kids 4H lambs, Iris had a little ewe lamb.
Sired by Ramble N Maximilian.
Sticking with our "Cool Car" theme, Evelyn named her Bugatti.

Linden Lane WhiteFeather is a spotted katmoget ewe. The color variation in her yarn is just extraordinary! All shades of whites, greys and blacks all in one strand of yarn.
I have her fleece mostly spun up and I'm kinda sad I have to wait another year to do it again. She is so soft and fun to work with!

Beautiful sunny day here in Northern Michigan. And first time in the pasture for this little guy. We have one more ewe left to lamb and boy has she dropped. Due the 9th.

Today while I was spinning up WhiteFeather, she was having a lamb!! Of course she didn't wait for me. First time mom and she's rocking it. Little Ram is strong and nursing well! Sired by Mahogany who is an F2 ram. Who's grandsire is Flitwick Samuel. You'd think with all those Katmogets in his line he would be one too. Nope. Solid black.

Serendipity Bailey had a beautiful little ewe lamb this morning. Sired by Linden Lane Farm 's AI ram, Stein. His ag grey gene is passed on again with this cute little ewe.
