No argument here.

Many people argue that General Custer, Sheep Mountain, Major Reno or Indian Sign were the greatest stallion to come from the Tooke Ranch. It is hands down Gray Wolf. The number of horses that go back to him are well into the hundreds. He spent a breeding season at Calgary Stampede producing 30+ colts that helped elevate their operation.

Wolf's genetics can be seen in great horses like Lunatic Fringe, Chuckulator, Friendly Fire, Grated Coconut, Miss Congeniality, Bobby Joe Skoal, and many other award winning horses. His bloodlines are the foundation for many of the top contractors of today.

In talking to Ernest only once has he ever mentioned crying, and that was the day he went out to feed Gray Wolf and found him dead by the barn at the age of 22 in 1978.

Here is Gray Wolf with a Vold Shire Mare and a Tooke mare being feed by the barn at the Tooke Ranch in 1975.
