🍽️ Dames Dine Around: Farewell Dinner at Blue Bird Bistro🥂

Join us Thursday evening, October 1 at 6:30 p.m. as we celebrate blue bird bistro, Dame and Owner Jane Zieha, and the incredible staff who have championed local, organic meats and vegetables — and nurtured our food community — for more than 30 years.

What a masterclass in flavor!

Last week, our KC Dames and friends of Dames gathered around the kitchen with Dame Jyoti Mukharji for a hands-on journey through the regional cooking of India.

Together, we made our way across the country, one dish at a time 🇮🇳

Papdi Chaat: a crispy pastry layered with garbanzo beans, potatoes, yogurt, tamarind chutney & toasted cumin from Northern India

Masala Rava Dhokla: steamed cream of wheat and spicy potatoes with a fragrant garnish from Western India

Bhel Puri: tangy, sweet & savory Mumbai beach classic with raw green mango and cilantro chutney

Vada & Rasan: Southern lentil fritters paired with a tangy tomato-lentil soup

And chilled, spiced watermelon to finish 🍉

A chef, teacher, and retired physician, Jyoti has been teaching Indian cooking from her kitchen for more than 15 years, sharing her wisdom with thousands of students in classes that sell out in hours!

She and her son Auyon even gathered nearly 100 of her best recipes into her recent cookbook, “Heartland Masala: An Indian Cookbook from an American Kitchen.”

What a beautiful room full of ambition, talent, and the future of our industry. 🩵

A few weeks ago we gathered to celebrate our newest class of Les Dames d’Escoffier Kansas City Scholarship Winners. We are so inspired by this group!

A heartfelt thank you to Affäre Restaurant for hosting us, and to everyone who came out to celebrate these remarkable women.

Our winners are pursuing an incredible range of paths: chef’s apprentices, food science majors, future pastry chefs and restaurateurs, nutritionists, hospitality managers, and a graduate research assistant pursuing her M.S. in horticulture.

The breadth of these goals is exactly what our scholarships are all about!

Since 2017, our chapter has awarded scholarships to women across the greater Kansas City area pursuing careers throughout the culinary, beverage, and hospitality world: from the culinary arts and nutrition to w**e, regenerative agriculture, food science, communications, and beyond.

Whether they’re just starting out, continuing their studies, or changing course mid-career, our goal is to help women achieve their dreams and shape the future of food.

Congratulations to every one of our scholarship recipients! We can’t wait to see all that you accomplish.

T**a! 🥂 That’s “cheers” in Euskara, and it’s the perfect word for Thursday evening.

We gathered at Pierpont's at Union Station for a seated food & w**e pairing class spotlighting the w**es of Basque/T**a W**e Imports, founded by our own Dame Kerri Lesh, PhD, CSW.

Over five gorgeous Basque w**es and a spread of authentic pintxos, we ate, sipped, and got swept away by the culture, history, and centuries of tradition behind every bottle.

Kerri Lesh, a cultural anthropologist with deep, lifelong ties to the Basque Country, shared the stories that make these w**es so special. We learned a little Euskara (the ancient language of the Basque people), a lot about the region, and even how to master the Basque country’s famous long pour. 🫗

The best part?

$5 from every ticket went to support Les Dames d’Escoffier Kansas City and our mission to champion women in hospitality!
